Coffee Project

 about Ugandan Gold

Wambybya Select

Family run

Sixty families run the day to day operation at the plantation.  They depend on this source of income for their daily income.  This is program has helped them learn how to "fish".

Organic

The project uses all natural pest control and fertilization.

Picked one cherry at a time

The people of the Bunyoro-Kitara hand-pick coffee cherries at the CEED plantation to earn income for their children’s school fees. Without this source of income, many families would be unable to provide quality education for their children. This hand-picking ensures only ripe cherries are chosen and increases the overall quality of the coffee that is harvested.

Shade Grown

Fast growing shade trees are planted along with the coffee. Ugandan coffee thrives with an optimum level of shade from the equatorial sun. Trees also provide habitat for the countless species of birds in Uganda.

Sun Dried

Most coffee today is processed wet. Sun drying takes longer and is more labor intensive, but it allows the hull to be removed by dry percussion, retaining flavor and quality.

Naturally pollinated

African coffee is improved in yield and quality by pollination. Every acre of Wambabya plantation has a fully operational beehive, which also produces wonderful coffee flavored honey!
